I am so, so sick of training Google's self-driving car *for free* via Captchas. Go drive off a cliff.

To use this NFC board that *I already paid for*, I have to download a .deb which is behind a Google reCAPTCHA. 💩

@annika I'm pretty pissed at their bait-and-switch they pulled.

Originally it was helping Project Gutenberg, so it was ethical and friendly. Then it slowly started helping their proprietary OCR stuff. Now it's for their murder-bot AI.

@annika yep google, that cliff is a roadway, you can trust me

@iliana i tried to flag the overpass as a car but it rejected me. must have been the known image, not the training image

@annika I've actually found that if I lie often enough to a CAPTCHA, it lets me through anyway. It might take 6 times, but I just keep insisting that a signpost is a car, or whatever, and eventually it decides I'm not a robot.

@klaatu @annika Similarly if you click only the obvious signs then you’ll normally get through. Presumably the difficult ones are where you’re training the machine and if you don’t click them it’s none the wiser and you haven’t helped it learn.

@annika Would selecting wrong stuff on purpose harm their database?

@Gargron I guess it would add noise? I'd love to know more but I've never sought out that info.

AFAIK old reCAPTCHA would show you something it knew, and something it didn't, and it could only verify you on the thing it knew. Maybe new reCAPTCHA is similar?

@annika do the audio option instead so you're only training the voice to text engine

@annika Ugh yes mee too I miss old reCaptcha. At least I felt like I was helping digitize books.
