@sashin hmmmm. Heat Signature is my other favorite example, in a very different genre. when at their best, the new zeldas capture this energy. mario odyssey’s post-game also does this but not nearly as well and the main story progression was so dull that I didn’t have the energy to engage with it by the time I got there
@clarity Oh no, it had a good post game??? I finished the main story and stopped, I hated that Mario!!!

@sashin yeah in the post game you just roam around the past levels poking around looking for moons and chasing whims.
heat signature is fascinating because it really doesn’t care what you do with it. it’s got missions of varying difficulties so you can set your own pace, or you can even just ignore them entirely and roam the world doing piracy and looking for cool items
@clarity I had not heard about this but it sounds like a cross between a platformer and a skateboarding game the way you're describing it. (I'm suddenly reminded of Dustforce and its great soundtrack)
