In Zig generic types are just functions that run at compile-time!

Also, printf is implemented entirely in-language without any magic.

specifically excited to try out Zig because of its powerful compile-time programming that doesn't require learning a second meta-language. ziglang.org/documentation/mast

honestly I have some complaints but all in all I really like working in this specific tech stack, it's just like, jeez. I've been mentoring a junior dev on the team and he keeps being like..... wow there's a lot

Sometimes I am reminded that my job required that I have deep knowledge of a programming language + two huge DSLs that have to target multiple execution environments, two preprocessors that both add turing-complete sublanguages, and a complicated & nuanced framework

it's that time of the year, where I make (usually short-lived) ambitions to actually read the bookmarks I put into pinboard instead of just sending them there to die

finally forced to decide how I feel about The Devil (XV)

just did a clarity tarot spread (I love having a spread named after me) and phew it's one of the most intense reads I've done, a court card with three major arcana as the clarifiers

sometimes t4t feels like a self-healing ideology. I want to nurture that further

Show thread

thinking about systems that are self-healing, where engaging in them is also the process of nurturing them, changing them to fit local and personal needs, and wondering how you could make a computer that works like this, or an infrastructure of solidarity, or an ideology

Or maybe I am thinking about computers and bicycles. Programmers (self included) talk about “black boxes” and “APIs” a lot, abstractions where the inner workings are forgotten. Meanwhile, I can see and understand and touch every moving part on my bicycle. I like the bike more.

Thinking a lot about degrowth, the means of cultural production, and the methods by which we can construct a different reality where a better world isn’t impossible

ppl should send me theory/philosophy recs bc I want to start essay-writing in the spring and it'd nice to be able to properly acknowledge intellectual heritage

Show thread

so far this year it's been How To Do Nothing (an affirming read but lacking needed queer perspective), Walter Benjamin's Thesis on the Philosophy of History and Art in the Era of Mechanical Reproduction (clarifying) and Infect Your Friends and Loved Ones (hell yes trans spec fic)

Show thread

wanna take a year off and spend all my time reading theory, philosophy, and trans lit
