Hobonichi update: I'm not really feeling the Mother cover this year, so I'm trying to decide between these two

happy boston moving day everyone. wonder if we’ll get a news story about someone clipping a highway overpass with a truck this year

I also just got used to it after a while—at first something like "Today too let's be spoiled by this big sis!" is eye-rolling, but I ended up just…letting it go. It can even be fun to try to reverse engineer the original text!

Anyway, the game itself is good, maybe I'll write about that later

I put this game off for a long time because it has a pretty poor fan translation. There is a team working on a better one, but the timing worried me—I wanted to finish Zero (and its sequel, Ao) before Cold Steel 3 comes out later this year. So, I stopped waiting and powered through the old fan translation.

And it actually went okay, mostly! It certainly wasn't well written, but I could at least understand everything. I can count on my fingers the number of lines that came out as total nonsense.

I finished Zero no Kiseki! It only took like 15 hours more than Fire Emblem. Too bad I like long games!!!

Every time I go to XOXO I get to Portland and the weather is largely the same as Boston and then I come home and it’s suddenly the High Pumpkin season

was just reminded of the greatest spelling and grammar suggestion windows has ever offered me. happy april chump's day

nice to be distant enough from O.C. memes and vocoder novelty that I can just listen to Imogen Heap’s Hide and Seek and be like “hey, this is a nice song”

Found the classic “substitute teacher for a day” Trails sidequest in Zero. Still hoping for “test this prototype weapon/equipment”

fall weather rolling in right now

thinking about going out to the store even though I don’t need anything just to wear a hoodie for a bit

tfw you have a thousand conversations in one chapter and it's all worth it

Zero no Kiseki ch 3 spoilers

For real, though, I think this is the most text I’ve ever seen in a game. I’ve had nearly a thousand conversations just in this one chapter, because someone wrote dialog for pretty much every nobody in the whole game that updates on every plot beat and I have to read it all for some reason

One fun thing about Zero no Kiseki having so many NPCs is that their identifying quirks get increasingly weird. Favorite so far is “medical intern who always grosses her colleagues out by studying anatomy while eating”

(Good year for Falcom localizations too: Tokyo Xanadu, Trails in the Sky the 3rd, and Ys VIII!)

2017 was a wild year for video games. I haven't played all of these, but I've at least heard someone describe every one as "one of my favorite games ever" (or even "my favorite," straight-up):

Assassin's Creed Origins, Breath of the Wild, Doki Doki Literature Club, Hollow Knight, Horizon Zero Dawn, Nier: Automata, Night in the Woods, Persona 5, Resident Evil 7, Splatoon 2, Super Mario Odyssey, What Remains of Edith Finch, Yakuza 0

i wonder what sort of rumor i've started
