"What’s the order in which you would drop Apple, Amazon, Google, Facebook from your life, if forced to — from first to last."
1 Facebook - Already done
2 Google - I archive to Gmail but could forward elsewhere & already search with DuckDuckGo
3 Amazon - Would be more difficult but there are lots of online stores
4 Apple - I could do much of my work with Linux but would miss their OS on PC & mobile
Tips:
1) Own your own modem (also saves $)
2) Write down the modem's MAC/make/model
3) When you cancel, tell them you're moving overseas to skip any hassle
4) Remove any auto-pay info and wait for disconnect
5) Once you're offline (which can take a few days: bonus free service!) call them and reactivate a new account with the promo rate you want
This should work if you have Cable TV too but you'll have to worry about TV tuner/DVRs/CableCards you might rent...
Canceled my cable internet account and signed up for a new one. I do this every year to keep the promotional rate. Saves me $300/year.
It a minor pain because you have to talk on the phone but I'll take an hour of that for $300 not going to Comcast.
(Wish I could get municipal fiber so this wasn't needed.)
I thought this was a great overview of the great designs Zelda BotW & The Witcher 3 do in making open-world sidequests fun rather than busywork.
Sadly, Mass Effect Andromeda fails here too because while they have lore chunks and talky bits for each sidequest, they still feel very inconsequential. :slight_frown:

It also bugs me that each of these controllers charges a different way (unless I buy some extra charging Joycon grip). Looking forward to USB-C on the PS and Xbox controllers sooner rather than later. :joystick:
It's awesome to have all these systems (360 Pad is for PC) but sometimes I wish they could share controllers so I didn't have to keep this pile next to my couch.

I can guarantee you there are basically only two reactions inside of twitter to mastodon:
1. Complete smugness about how hard this problem is and how completely certain they are that this federation will fail to scale.
2. People who see the decisions Mastodon has made and feel in their heart that twitter has failed to achieve the vision they had for it. They see an existential threat and will be completely disregarded by those with the first reaction. Many of these people will quit.
Mastodon is making me almost as excited about the internet as the widespread adoption of RSS did c. 2003. That is to say: a lot.
I honestly thought I was too jaded to get truly excited about anything on the internet ever again.
Videogames are so good right now I face a little decision paralysis each time I sit down to play!
I'm mainly juggling Zelda, Mass Effect, and Persona 5 for now but still want to play Horizon Zero Dawn & NieR: Automata. Oh I only played a bit of Night in the Woods before Zelda hit so I owe that more too!
How are you prioritizing your game-time in the good game deluge?
Hello all you wonderful XOXO folks!
